Biography

Fennesz (AT) is the solo project of musician, composer and sound artist Christian Fennesz, a defining voice in experimental electronic music since the 1990s. Merging guitar, ambient, noise and electronic sound processing, Fennesz has fundamentally shaped the perception of electronic music as a form that is simultaneously physical and abstract, emotional and conceptual, technologically reflective and profoundly human. Trained as a guitarist, Fennesz treats the instrument as raw material rather than a fixed voice. Chords blur into saturated fields, feedback becomes structure, and fragments of melody surface and disappear. This approach, crystallized on Endless Summer (2001) and evolving through Venice and Black Sea, reimagines the guitar as both tactile and immaterial. Mosaic (2024) distills Fennesz’s practice into a fluid interplay of fractured melody, looping structures, and finely sculpted digital textures, balancing formal openness with emotional depth. A highly sought-after collaborator - having worked with the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jim O’Rourke, Alva Noto and King Midas Sound - Fennesz brings a deep sensitivity to space and reduction. Live, his sets unfold as fragile, improvisational environments where digital complexity meets raw emotional resonance.
