Biography

Juli Deák (PL/HU) employs the saxophone and flute to bridge classical, contemporary, and jazz traditions, combining delicate melodic phrasing with extended techniques such as circular breathing and percussive effects. While deeply grounded in classical training, her sound embraces experimentation, improvisation, and folk influences. Deák’s work often explores the physical and expressive limits of the flute, including breath sounds and singing while playing - an approach central to her solo project The Breathing Project. She describes her music as “creating stillness in motion.” Her debut album, Brisk, released on Thanatosis in 2026, is the culmination of the project. Her inquisitive artistic voice has led her into collaborations with ensembles such as KammarensembleN, Konstmusiksystrar, and VENI Ensemble, as well as her project Haldamas x Hulajdusza, that blends jazz with traditional folk elements, reflecting her interest in cultural fusion.
