About
Rickard Eklund and Duo Bottasso are three of the five artists selected for Nonagon's residency program 2025. During their two-week residency at Svanö, they collaboratively created a new audiovisual work tailored specifically for the cistern. Duo Bottasso, working with sound, and Rickard Eklund, creating visuals, responded to the unique acoustics and atmosphere of the space, crafting a piece that directly engages with the cistern's distinctive environment. Their work will be presented for the first time to an audience in the cistern at Nonagon Festival 2026.
Biography
Rickard Eklund (SE) works interdisciplinarily across film, sculpture, and graphic art, engaging with recurring themes of perception and perspective. His experimental practice continually explores new artistic tools and techniques, while often incorporating found objects and images that he alters through filtering, reframing, and integration into new structures and poetic narratives.
During his Nonagon residency in 2025, Rickard explored a new widescreen film format developed from analogue techniques. Inspired by the nature and industrial history of the area, the project evolved into an expansion of his method of capturing archival footage, composing a multi-panel cinematic format that investigates the curious connections and hidden dimensions within the material, as well as the potential of simultaneous silent film storytelling.
At Nonagon Festival 2026, he will perform the audiovisual piece created in collaboration with Duo Bottasso during their Nonagon residency.
